Vacation!
No, not a vacation from ranting, just a vacation……for real!
As a matter of fact, I am updating the trip daily on a web page for all my family and friends to see. Check it out HERE (original page included below)
The following is an initial rambling recollection of our recent Memorial Day weekend trip to the Big Apple.
Broadway - Urinetown wins three Tony awards! We loved this play - if you are in New York, make a beeline for this one…

Panhandlers - We actually ran across this individual in the Pittsburgh airport. He is either one of the more creative panhandlers we saw on our trip or is perhaps the oldest Krishna follower in the northeast USA. The robot-man was able to bill himself as a ‘street performer’ in NYC. That’s a popular trend. We saw another down by the Fulton fish market - same guy? Hard to tell.
The rest of these are basically just captions for the pictures - further pics and narrative to follow soon…
An interesting makeshift pond near our hotel.
Ground Zero - wall of memorabilia on the fence of the church nearby.
We wanted to attend a filming of the Letterman show but they were just showing reruns this week. :(
A Martian themed restaurant - a place to eat that only tourists and Trekkies will love…
Waiting on the subway - I will say this, if you live in New York the subway is an absolute godsend. We bought two 7-day Metrocards which gave us unlimited access to all buses and subways for our entire trip. In spite of using them all week long we were still worn out from walking! The subways are fast and efficient, and we never ran into any problems with gangs or any sort of criminal element, even in Chinatown and Harlem!
Marketing - if you want your sign or billboard to get noticed in this town you had best employ multiple colors, and those colors should probably move. Even better, incorporate video. This is one of the more recognizable signs in Times Square.
