My Braindead Job
Most days I managed to survive my job without letting it completely suck my soul out of me, but days like tomorrow push the limits. Tomorrow I have a *mandatory* class on ESD, ElectroStatic Discharge. Now the funny part is that I’ve been removing and replacing parts in computers for going on twenty years now, and I have yet to fry a part due to static electricity. Plus our service desk area/lab bench has rubber mats and discharge wrist-bands everywhere. And doesn’t everyone know when the conditions are right for a heightened static spark event? I mean, if you’ve shocked yourself getting in and out of your car this morning you might want to pay attention while repairing PC’s that day. It seems to me to be a no-brainer. But no, we get this:
“This training will include an electric static discharge presentation, short technical video on ESD, and a 2-way discussion on ESD policies and tools.”
For ninety minutes I have to endure this. I can hardly wait….
